WASHINGTON, DC (December 6, 2017): The Council for Affordable Health Coverage (CAHC) – a coalition of employers, insurers, life science companies, PBMs, brokers, agents, patient groups, and physician organizations – presented Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) with the Affordability Champion award, the organization's highest honor.

The CAHC Affordability Champion Award is given annually to Members of Congress, administration officials, and Congressional staff for their work to contain health care costs through bipartisan, commonsense solutions. Senator Cassidy is the only US Senate Republican to receive this recognition.

CAHC President Joel White released the following statement:

"As a physician himself, Senator Cassidy knows firsthand the challenges of navigating today's healthcare system for patients, providers, and payers alike. During his time in office, he has dedicated himself to solutions that streamline access to care, promote choice and competition, and ultimately lower healthcare costs," said CAHC President Joel White. "This Congress, Senator Cassidy has taken the lead on drafting forthcoming legislation to improve transparency of healthcare prices and quality, thereby helping patients make more informed decisions and take charge of their own care. CAHC also recognizes his work to address the flaws of the Affordable Care Act, including legislation authored alongside Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) which would have, among other reforms, enhanced state flexibility through changes to the ACA's waiver provisions. On behalf of our diverse membership, CAHC is pleased to award Senator Cassidy with this well-deserved honor and extends to him our gratitude for his tireless work to lower the cost of healthcare for every American."

Joining Senator Cassidy in receiving the Affordability Champion award this year are Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA), Rep. Patrick Meehan (R-PA), Rep. Kurt Schrader (D-OR), and Congressional staff award recipients: Adam Buckalew with the House Energy and Commerce Committee Majority Staff (R) and Kristen O'Neill with the office of Rep. Gene Green (D-TX).
