CAHC Statement on Medicare Part D Affordability
The announcement today by Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius that prescription drug premiums under Medicare Part D will not increase in 2012 shows that actual costs continue to come in well under the original estimates prepared by Medicare’s Office of the Chief Actuary in 2004.
“When we get the incentives right, competition in health care markets offers enormous benefits to consumers,” said Coalition for Affordable Health Coverage Executive Director Joel White. “We urge the administration and Congress to work together in applying these same principles to the rest of the Medicare program.”
